2009 was a pretty good year. It doesn't feel like we're approaching a new decade. What will we refer to this decade as? Was this the 0's? That sounds pretty lame. How will people sum up this decade? Will we be the web2.0 years or the autotunies. I hope neither stick. Speaking of years and naming conventions I propose that we get back on track and call this new year 2010 twenty-ten. Not two thousand ten. I miss the good old days of "nineteen-anything."

Unrelated to anything, the image above is an amalgam of back and forth drawings created by myself and my friend Ziggy Blumenthal. He drew the first one, I saw it, liked it and decided to do my take on it....after not looking at it for about an hour. Obviously I might have gotten a few things wrong but that's where the charm was. (that's what I kept telling myself) What ensued was a series of drawings created alternately with only one rule: After you see the previous image briefly, draw your interpretation. Some were spaced out over several hours. The longer the time, the more the "charm."

I don't have a snappy closing line for 2009. That wasn't meant to rhyme. Neither was that. Happy New Year everybody!!!

At approximately 6:42pm, Hula Hippo made a brief but memorable appearance today on the train ride home from work. He was careful not to outstay his welcome.

Introducing Douglas the God of Protection, but you can call him Doug.

Here's a quick study I did for a painting I started while on vacation. More to come on this when there's something to show.

So it should be noted that I did this when I was a bit frustrated. I'm posting it today but things have definitely turned around since the day it was drawn.

Santa Claus is coming...It's not a threat, honest. Common misconception, he doesn't have a sack full of toys. He carries the presents in his hump and burps them out when he arrives under your tree.

Movember to Remember!

Hey everybody!

I don’t usually do too much during the year in the way of charity and I feel like I should. So finally, I’m doing something good for humanity and growing a silly mustache in the process! All proceeds go to either Prostate Cancer research or Testicular Cancer research.

Please check it out and support me in my efforts if you can. Maybe pass this along as well. Don’t let cancer win. We can ride this mustache train all the way to a cure! Wait, that might have come out wrong. People are telling me not to phrase it like that.

Either way, here’s my Movember Donation page!

I feel like I've been here before. Yes. I do believe I have. Been keeping busy.

Things don't always go as planned. That's ok, when life hands you lemons, make ridiculously large cold cut sandwiches. Everything will work out alright.

Rock out, and while you're at it try new things... A recent project pushed me into a new technique and now I'm playing with it. I'm not using Illustrator just yet but I think it's only a matter of time before I give in and learn the basics.

2Art4TV Paintings

I made 5 paintings for the Too Art for TV gallery show. (Top to bottom, left to right "Always Greener" "Midnight Mission" "Nesting" "Low Rent" "Open House") I had a blast! Thanks to Liz Artinian for the opportunity to show my work. I met a bunch of awesome people and saw some amazing art. As of now, "Midnight Mission" has been sold. The rest are on display and sale at the gallery until Oct 17th. I'll offer prints on here soon for anyone who's interested. Thanks to everyone who came out to show support that night!

A walk before work.

Yesterday was the end of a very productive "long" weekend. I finished four paintings for the upcoming 2Art4TV show and started a fifth one. It's smaller than the rest and I'm sure I can get it done in the next day or two. I attribute my recent productivity to being fueled by hot dogs, ribs and beer this weekend. The stuff creativity is made of.

2 Art 4 TV!

Hey guys and gals, it's official...I'll be exhibiting several of my new paintings in this year's Too Art For TV!!! I've been working away for the past few months and in just a few weeks you can come check out the reason for my social disappearance. I'm honored to be amongst some of the most talented artists out there. Last year's turnout was insane with what seemed like 200 people just waiting outside to get in, so get there early and enjoy the awesome!

For those who don't know, this show is dedicated to the art of artists working primarily in the NYC animation scene and it gives people a chance to create works that they don't normally get to produce for their day jobs. It's a ton of fun so if you're in Brooklyn on the 18th, come on by!

Thanks to Liz Artinian, Tom Bayne and Carly Monardo for everything!

...and they say I don't draw pretty ladies.

Here's a quick color study I did for a possible painting in the works. The houses are all wrapped up and tangled within the tree. (Driving to them is anything but pleasant)

"Where have you been?" Right here waiting for you. I've been very busy but that should be no excuse for my absence. I'm still drawing every day so I should be posting every day. My apologies. Right now I'm in the middle of creating a few paintings for an upcoming gallery show in Brooklyn. I'm excited about it and I'll post more about it soon. This is just to show you that I'm still alive. Above is a quick doodle made while on a conference call with a goofy client that kept saying the same thing over and over and seemed totally unprepared for the call. Ok, I'll keep trying to post more often! Thanks to everyone who has been checking out my blog and waiting for updates, I'll try not to let you down least for a while.

So I realize that there are some days missing...I'll back date them when I get a chance. Life has been very busy while I'm ramping up production on between 200-400 stuffed creatures. More on that soon. Until then, here's a sketch I did as a concept for a project at work. Lots of things in the works right now....I'll elaborate when I can. :)

He's got a good point.

Bless him, he tries. He hasn't had enough money for a shower in over a month. He hasn't sold anything since the late 90's.

He means well, he just can't swim.

While I have no idea what he's talking about, he said it with certitude so I believe him.

There's just so many things that this could be a reaction to, "I got the materials for the raft...", "I made your lunch with special bread...", "Look at my beautiful date..." Give it a try, it's fun!

Oh pears.

I take the train to work! Ain't that fascinating!

Yes, those will actually make delicious cookies, I just don't know how long to cook them for...And so, with that, the initial experiment has ended. I completed 31 drawings and mailed them all off to Adult Swim. The only feedback I received was from friends and internet people who stumbled upon my project. I don't know how long I'll keep this up but I've decided for the hell of it, I'll just keep making them until either I give up or they give in... and by give in I mean respond in any way shape or form. Stick around and see what happens!

Nobody likes being taken advantage of but in these tough economic times, it's hard to say no.

Only the funniest Pete can have a book deal, otherwise that would be a giant waste of time and money.

That's just pure, refreshing honesty right there, cold filtered.

Gyro's anyone?

Who am I to stand in the way of genius? IF Chester thinks it's a good idea, the least I can do is hear him out.

Oh Cheryl. (if you don't get this one, look harder...if you still don't get it, ask)

Remember Suzette? She's the girl you once knew but totally forgot about. She blended in really well in high school as background fodder. Now she's the one who works at the DMV and is so excited to see you and you have to be all like, " Oh heyyyy, yoooouuu. How How's life and junk?" But you have no idea who she is, do you. Nope. It's ok, it doesn't make you a bad person. Now go about your life and forget about her once again, she'll bounce back. She has her cats.

What a gentleman. How can you say no to such charm and confidence.

A gripping new dramality show with heart. This brave balloon can teach us all a little something about what it means to be strong and how it relates to the human condition. Get the tissues ready for this one.
